Mother’s Day 2021: Pooja Bhatt Opens Up On Depiction Of Reel Moms; Says ‘Don’t Strip Mothers Of Their Sensuality’
Pooja Bhatt recently made a comeback with Alankrita Shrivastava’s Netflix series Bombay Begums, which received a positive response from the viewers. In the web series, Pooja Bhatt is seen playing the role of Rani Irani- a mother, and the CEO of Royal Bank of Bombay. Now, ahead of Mother’s Day, Pooja Bhatt has talked about the portrayal of mothers on screen, in an interview. She said that a mother’s character should not be restricted merely to being ‘sacrificial women’, and instead their ‘sensuality’ should be retained.

While speaking to ETimes, Pooja Bhatt said that playing the role of a mother in both Zakhm as well as Bombay Begums, has served her very well. Speaking about the portrayal of women on screen, she said that we are taking baby steps in the right direction, however, there’s still a long way to go as far as the perception of the audience is concerned. She then urged that the character of a mother shouldn’t just be restricted to that of a sacrificial person, and that they shouldn’t be stripped off of their sensuality.

“Don’t strip us of our sensuality. Mothers should not be portrayed merely as sacrificial women who have tossed their femininity aside to care for their families," said Pooja Bhatt.

Pooja Bhatt further spoke how her character in Bombay Begums has many layers, and while Rani is caring, she is also needy, manipulative, and above all, sensual. “She grows along with her teenage daughter and is only able to establish a real connection with her only when she lets go of her own defenses and speaks from a place of truth and compassion,” said Pooja Bhatt.
